JDP senior Jayna was back for her senior session! 4 years ago I created JDP jr. portraits for her after her brother Charles was here for his senior session. We vision cast to time stamp this next part of her life with joy and celebration!
Jayna shared some inspirations at our planning time and immediately my wheels began spinning. I love to surprise our returning JDP jr. clients with something new and special for their JDP senior session. For Jayna, it was going to be a swing around our pond! One limb was a possibility, so the JDP team set to bringing the vision to life!
Jayna has an exciting opportunity awaiting her--she is headed, one semester early, to Mount St. Mary's for college. She's been recruited to their Division I flag football team which began officially competing in the 2025-26 year! The Mountaineers made history as the first Division I school in the Northeastern United States to sponsor the sport.
Jayna had just started in flag football when I met her as a middleschooler years ago. She was so pumped about it and ready to set aside her soccer pursuits for this new passion that's holding strong for her!
As Jayna prepares to graduate early to join the Mount's Flag Football team, she takes with her a faith in the Lord that is growing. She recognizes that His Word is a lamp to her feet and a light to her path.
Jayna joined a team the Baltimore Ravens were sponsoring with a 3 year commitment. Frederick County was the first to launch flag football in our area. Now just 3 years later, flag football teams are everywhere! Jayna is excited to be in the founding years of this sport she loves.
In some sessions, I am able to capture what I like to call my Annie Leibovitz moment. These are moments that feel raw, no performance or guardedness, unscripted...just a moment that speaks volumes in the eyes. This portrait above was that moment for Jayna. A young woman on the verge of so much change, stepping into uncertainty with boldness!
Jayna is about to experience a lot of firsts at the Mount. She's already the first recruit in flag football from Oakdale High. She'll be setting aside her time in her rec and travel teams to invest growing herself as a player at the Mount.
Jayna's commitment to being a forerunner in this sport has not been without injuries. She's suffered concussions, a broken foot and jammed fingers. She's a defensive corner who is strong and powerful on the field when she enters beast mode to compete. Her coach likes to say, 'she never misses a flag!'
So here's to many, many more flags in your hands over the next 4 years dear one! You are going to be a blessing to the Mount and your team! May you flourish and grow in trusting the Lord with your next steps dear one!
