Trip has had a vision for many years now. He wanted a formal, stoic military family portrait with the two people he loves more than anything in this world. He wasn't sure when this would happen, or if it ever would, but he kept imagining it.
Then last year I met the Wrights for Brady's senior portraits. His mom had been following JDP for almost 10 years. The Wrights were over the moon about Brady's senior collection and were eager to get back in for their next family installment.
The timing could not have been more perfect. Trip is about to retire from his service in the Green Beret Special Services in the Army after serving 37.5 years! Brady has just completed his first year at the Citadel Military Academy. After an incredibly rigorous and mentally and physically taxing year, Brady's made it to the other side and celebrating! He has already stepped into leadership roles helping to train the new Knob class.
Trip's original vision was for the formal portrait which will be a painted brush oil proudly displayed in their home in a few months. What' so lovely are the accompanying out takes that surround the stoic "show me your beautiful family" portraits. These outtakes reveal the sweet dynamic between these three--full of joy, mischief and tenderness.
As we discussed this milestone of Trip's retirement, I encouraged him to consider if he wanted to incorporate any of the meaningful pieces from his journey fighting evil around the world for 37.5 years. Trip has jumped from planes more times than he can count and even lost 2" off his height from his time in the military. I wondered if these portraits should speak of a lifetime spent staring evil in the face and devising strategies to combat it.
As Trip prepares to lay down this mantle of protecting and defending our great nation for 37.5 years, he does so as the highest NCO rank, a Command Sergeant Major.
His eyes are on the next chapter which will involve traveling to see the US with his beloved bride Lisa. They'll be 'trip-ing' together with their pups to see Brady's Citadel lacrosse games as well. Trip also plans to delve fully into his blog about another past time he's pulled Lisa into--his love of whiskey. These two were hilarious as Trip presented Lisa with a tumbler of whiskey during the session. She radiated a joyful love of her husband and the sweetness they share together in this next 'retired' phase of life approaching. Trip is a connoisseur of the amber liquid and is well versed in its history and the distillery process. He'll be sharing more about whiskey in his blog--look for it in the near future if you share the passion!
Thank you for helping to keep our nation safe Trip. Now it's time to enjoy the fruits of your labor! Click here to contact us for your own custom portraits.
